By arrangement with Opera Australia, Penicka-Smith Arts & Event Management & St Andrew’s College Centre for Education present a three day opera conducting workshop. This is a rare opportunity to work with a highly experienced and passionate teacher in Carlo Montanaro, and to develop your skills conducting some of the mainstays of the operatic repertoire with an expert in the field.
The course includes a masterclass on technique, suitable for both beginners to established conductors seeking to refine their skills, as well as providing podium time with feedback to intermediate and advanced conductors. The advanced classes will have a particular focus on interpreting and conducting Italian operatic repertoire. All candidates are welcome to audit each session, and auditing is also open to singers, repetiteurs, and anyone else with an interest in the class material.
Prepare to work hard - but in a friendly and collegiate setting, where everyone is welcome to delve into the detail of conducting some of opera's greatest works.
These masterclasses are a pilot program in recognition of just how many conductors Australia is producing, and the hunger for more high-level masterclass opportunities. We would love to see an Opera Academy, with a strong focus on conducting, here in Australia. Please join us to find out what we can offer, and let us know what you're missing in your professional life, so we can build something collegiate together.
Questions? See our FAQs, or contact us. Wanted to join the SOLD-OUT Intermediate session (25 minutes podium time, orchestral repertoire)? Contact us to request to be wait-listed, or see if we can accommodate your preference in another session.
