International music tour operators KI Concerts engaged Penicka-Smith Arts & Event Management as local concert managers for this international choral festival featuring Maestro Craig Hella Johnson, culminating in a Gala Concert in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House.
The 5-day festival, held in Sydney with a 2 day pre-festival extension to Cairns, included 5 concerts in various iconic Sydney locations, and gave 500 singers from around the world the opportunity to sing on the Sydney Opera House’s Concert Hall platform, conducted by Maestro Johnson and with a premiere by choral superstar Jake Runestad.
Our role included:
Generating local audience for a free concert at the Sydney Opera House;
Developing partnerships between local and international choirs for community engagement concerts;
Organising and managing pop-up concerts in high profile locations, including the Australian Museum, to provide audience exposure and performance opportunities for international choirs;
Publicity including media releases to leading local electronic and print media organisations, including interviews for Maestro Johnson and composer Jake Runestead
Facilitating live breakfast radio crosses with ABC 702 and Far North Queensland, featuring interviews with Maestro Johnson and performances by Bakersfield College, California
Generating audience through targeted ticket giveaways to volunteers and community members from a range of health, social and community services who would not ordinarily be able to access a concert at the Opera House
Facilitating a fundraising partnership with Australian Red Cross through donations at the Sydney Opera House Concert
